Beşiktaş have confirmed the signing of Kassoum Ouattara from Monaco, with the 21-year-old left-back putting pen to paper on a four-year contract that runs through to the end of the 2029-30 season. The transfer, completed at the start of July, is reported to be worth around €10 million in total, made up of an €8 million guaranteed fee plus roughly €2 million in add-ons. It is Ouattara's first move away from French football.
Beşiktaş had identified a left-back as a priority for the summer, and head coach Vincenzo Italiano was directly involved in pushing the deal over the line after being convinced by a series of conversations with the player. Ouattara is versatile enough to play as a left-back, a wing-back or further forward on the left side, which fits how Italiano likes his full-backs to contribute going forward as well as defend. Beşiktaş finished fourth in the Süper Lig last season and will play continental football again this year, adding to the appeal for a player looking to test himself outside France.
For Monaco, this is a straightforward cash-in on a player they developed. Ouattara arrived from Amiens in November 2023 and made 57 appearances in Monaco colours across three seasons, including nine in the Champions League, scoring once and setting up seven goals. He was part of a squad that finished on the podium in Ligue 1 and reached the Champions League knockout rounds during his time at the club, and he had also drawn interest from Hull City and other suitors before Beşiktaş won the race.
His departure leaves Monaco light at left-back for the second time this summer. Caio Henrique, the club's first-choice in that position and the man Ouattara understudied last season, left for Ajax only days earlier. Losing both in the same window means Monaco head into pre-season needing fresh options on that flank, even with the transfer fees banked.
In terms of recent form, Ouattara was a regular rather than an undisputed starter last season, making 24 appearances and contributing four assists as Monaco's back-up option behind Caio Henrique. He is still a France youth international, having earned call-ups at Under-21 level, and is regarded as one of the more promising young full-backs to come through the French game in the last couple of years.
At Beşiktaş, he is expected to compete for the starting left-back spot from day one given the club's need in that position, with his ability to play higher up the pitch giving Italiano license to use him as an attacking outlet as well as a defender. A four-year contract suggests Beşiktaş see him as a long-term building block rather than a short-term fix, and after three seasons learning his trade in Ligue 1, this is a significant step up in personal responsibility for the player.
