Timothy Weah's move to Marseille is now permanent. The USA international first joined the Ligue 1 club on loan from Juventus in August 2025, with an obligation to buy built into the deal, and that obligation has now been triggered, converting his stay into a permanent transfer worth around €14.5m, with add-ons that could push the total higher depending on sporting targets being met.
Marseille moved for Weah last summer as a direct replacement for Luis Henrique, who left for Inter Milan, and manager Roberto De Zerbi wanted a player who could operate as a wing-back in his favoured back-three system as well as further forward on the right. Weah's versatility across right-back, right wing-back and right wing made him an ideal fit, and his pace and directness were seen as exactly what Marseille needed to add more thrust down that side.
For Juventus, this is a player who fell out of the picture rather than one they fought to keep. Weah had been a regular under previous coach Thiago Motta, but lost his place once Igor Tudor took charge and was not part of Tudor's plans for the new season. He turned down interest from Nottingham Forest before agreeing to leave for Marseille instead, and Juventus have since been looking at alternatives such as Jonathan Clauss and Dodô to cover the right-back spot he has left behind.
After a slow start to life in France, Weah grew into a key figure for De Zerbi. Across his loan season he made 41 appearances in all competitions for Marseille, scoring three goals and contributing further assists, with the bulk of his football coming in Ligue 1 and the Champions League. He became one of the more trusted names in De Zerbi's side, valued for his energy and willingness to get up and down the right flank without leaving gaps in behind.
At Marseille, expect Weah to continue in the role he grew accustomed to last season: a right-sided wing-back or winger in De Zerbi's system, given license to attack the byline and support the front line while still being disciplined enough to track back. With the loan-to-buy formality now out of the way, he heads into the new campaign as an established first-team player rather than a temporary addition, which should mean more continuity in how Marseille set up down that side.
The move also draws a line under Weah's three years in Turin, where he arrived from Lille in 2023 and made over 100 appearances for the club, including a spell as part of the squad that won the Coppa Italia. He leaves as a full permanent Marseille player, with the France-based chapter of his career now firmly the priority over a possible return to Serie A.
