AFC Bournemouth have confirmed the signing of striker Álvaro Rodríguez from Elche, with the Uruguayan putting pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Vitality Stadium. The deal is reported at around £21.4m up front, with add-ons that could push the total value to roughly £25.7m (€30.1m). It is the first signing of the summer under new head coach Marco Rose, who replaced Andoni Iraola in the Bournemouth dugout.
Rodríguez only joined Elche a year ago, arriving from Real Madrid for a modest fee in the summer of 2025. That deal included a 50% sell-on clause for Real Madrid, meaning the Spanish giants are set to recoup roughly half of Elche's profit from this sale despite having let him go for very little. For Elche, who paid around €2m for him last summer, it still represents a healthy financial return on a one-season loan-like spell before selling on.
Bournemouth's football operations chief Tiago Pinto explained the thinking behind the move, saying the club were "really pleased to add to our attacking options with such a talented, young forward." Rose is understood to have tried to sign Rodríguez before at a previous club and has long been an admirer, viewing him as a serious option to challenge Evanilson for the central striker's role rather than a squad filler.
For Elche, the sale is a significant loss on the pitch. Rodríguez was central to their survival fight in La Liga last season, scoring seven goals and setting up five more in 34 league appearances - no player at the club had more goal involvements than his twelve. He started 24 of those games and racked up over 2,200 minutes, making him one of the first names on the team sheet as Elche fought to stay up.
His form throughout the campaign showed a striker capable of both scoring and creating: seven La Liga goals plus five assists in his debut Spanish top-flight season, having broken through at Real Madrid without ever quite forcing his way into their first-team plans. That combination of goal threat and link-up play is exactly what has caught Rose's eye as Bournemouth look to add more firepower up front.
Speaking after the move, Rodríguez said: "It feels like a great privilege to be here. I've always wanted to play in the Premier League, and now, on my birthday, that dream has become reality. It has been a dream since I was a child." At Bournemouth, he arrives to compete directly with Evanilson for a starting spot, giving Rose two credible options to lead the line as the Cherries prepare to open next season away at Manchester City.
The move fits a busy summer for Bournemouth, who are also said to be in the market for a new centre-back and are working to keep hold of defender Alex Scott amid interest from several bigger clubs. Signing Rodríguez early gives Rose a proven goalscorer to build his attack around before pre-season begins in earnest.
