Napoli have confirmed the permanent signing of Alisson Santos from Sporting CP, exercising a buy-out clause reported at €16.5m to turn the Brazilian winger's loan spell into a full-time deal. The move was completed on 5 June 2026, five months after Napoli first brought Santos to Serie A on loan in February, when they paid Sporting a €3.5m loan fee and inserted the option to buy. Combined, Italian outlets have put the total cost of landing him at close to €20m, though Napoli have not publicly confirmed a breakdown of the figures.
The move rewards a loan spell that went far better than most clubs could have hoped. Santos arrived at Napoli in February with barely any senior European football to his name, went straight into the side and scored on his Serie A debut against Roma. For Sporting, it is a case of losing a player almost as soon as they found him. The club signed Santos from Vitória for around €2.1m in the summer of 2025 and he made an instant impression, scoring on his Champions League debut and later netting a stoppage-time winner against Athletic Bilbao that helped secure Sporting's place in the last 16. He made 31 appearances in his single season at the club before Napoli's interest turned into a loan, then a permanent deal. Sporting recoup a healthy profit on their outlay, but they lose a winger who had just started to look like one of the most exciting attacking talents to come through the club in years.
Napoli's motivation is straightforward: they wanted more pace and unpredictability out wide, and Santos gave them both from the moment he arrived. He is a 23-year-old left-sided attacker who plays best in space rather than against a packed defence, someone who thrives when games open up and full-backs are stretched. That profile matters at a club going through a summer of transition — Napoli have parted ways with Antonio Conte and are set to bring in Massimiliano Allegri, who has a long history of getting the best out of wingers by using them as outlets in transition rather than pure width-huggers.
