Tottenham have completed the signing of Sávio from Manchester City in a deal that could be worth up to £85m, as Roberto De Zerbi's summer rebuild continues.

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Sávio from Manchester City, in a deal that becomes the highest departure fee in City's history. Spurs are paying £75m up front, with a further £10m available in add-ons — of which £5m is considered close to guaranteed — taking the total package to as much as £85m. That beats the £82m Manchester City received for Julian Alvarez's move to Atletico Madrid in 2024. Both clubs confirmed the move on their official websites on 25 August 2026. The 22-year-old Brazil international has been given the number 17 shirt at Tottenham and, at his own request, is now registered under his real name, Sávio, having played as Savinho throughout his time in England.

Tottenham had tracked Sávio for more than a year, having tried and failed to sign him last summer. Head coach Roberto De Zerbi said the winger "brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions" and has "the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity". Sporting director Johan Lange said Sávio had "been on our radar for a while". The move is part of a busy rebuild under De Zerbi after Tottenham finished 17th in the Premier League last season, with the club also closing in on a deal for Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush. De Zerbi has been explicit about the profile he wants in wide areas: players capable of winning one-on-one duels and creating chances.

For Manchester City, the sale ends a two-year spell in which Sávio made 84 appearances and scored seven goals after his permanent move from Girona in 2024. Manager Enzo Maresca made clear the player had been pushing for an exit. "Since day one, he is asking me to leave, so now we are waiting," Maresca said, comparing the situation to Rodri's departure. Maresca suggested a lack of regular starts was behind several players wanting to leave the club this summer, noting that when players don't play they tend to look to move on. City receive a club-record fee for a player who had increasingly found himself competing for a starting spot in a crowded forward line.

Sávio's recent output at City reflected that squad role rather than a guaranteed starting place. In the 2025-26 Premier League season he made 24 appearances but played just 821 minutes, scoring once and setting up another, mostly coming off the bench. That is some way short of the form that first got him noticed: on loan at Girona in 2023-24, he scored 11 goals in 41 matches and completed 104 dribbles, 18 more than any other player in La Liga that season, as Girona qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history. Tottenham's bet is that regular football unlocks more of that end product than he managed as part of City's rotation.

At Tottenham, Sávio is expected to operate in a front line built around Xavi Simons in the number 10 role, with Mohammed Kudus also available again after injury. He was registered in time to be considered for Tottenham's Carabao Cup third-round tie against Charlton Athletic, and is in contention to feature in the Premier League soon after. De Zerbi will hope his directness and dribbling give Spurs an out-ball they lacked during last season's poor campaign.
