Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Jeremy Monga from Leicester City, with the 17-year-old winger putting pen to paper on a five-year contract that runs until the summer of 2031. The fee is reported at £10m plus add-ons that could push the total value closer to £12.5m, with a sell-on clause also included as part of the agreement.
City moved decisively for a player they had been tracking for some time. Arsenal had also held talks with Leicester over Monga but were unwilling to match City's valuation and pulled out of the race, clearing the way for the move to Manchester. Director of football Hugo Viana said the club had followed Monga's progress closely and had "seen his ability first-hand from his time at Leicester", adding that City are confident the teenager will continue to improve now he is at the Etihad.
For Leicester, it is another departure to soften from a torrid period at the club. Monga emerged as one of the few genuine positives during back-to-back relegations, becoming the youngest goalscorer in Championship history when he scored aged 16 years and 37 days in a defeat away to Preston North End last season. He made 30 appearances in all competitions for Leicester in 2025-26, though his game time tailed off later in the campaign, starting just once in the club's final 13 matches. Selling him brings in a fee that will help balance the books, but it removes one of the few players Leicester fans had been building hope around.
Monga's rise has been rapid. He made his Premier League debut for Leicester against Newcastle United in April 2025 at just 15 years and 271 days old, making him the third-youngest player to ever appear in the competition. Across his time at the club he made 37 senior appearances in total, including seven in the Premier League, scoring one goal and setting up two more. He has also represented England at Under-19 level, underlining the reputation he has built despite his age.
At City, Monga joins a squad still shaped by Pep Guardiola's demand for versatile, technically gifted forward players, and a left-wing spot that has seen plenty of rotation in recent seasons. He will not be expected to walk straight into regular first-team football given the competition for places out wide, but the length of his contract points to a long-term project rather than an instant fix. City have a strong record of developing young wide players and easing them in gradually, and Monga's age means there is no rush to hand him a major role in his first season at the club.
The move is a reminder of how far Monga has already come in just over a year, from a substitute appearance in a relegation battle to a marquee signing for the Premier League champions' academy pipeline. How quickly he features for City's first team will depend on form, fitness and Guardiola's rotation plans, but the club clearly see him as a talent worth investing in for the rest of the decade.
