Manchester City have completed the signing of Palmeiras winger Allan in a deal worth up to £34m, with the 22-year-old Brazilian putting pen to paper on a five-year contract.

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of Allan Elias from Palmeiras, with the Brazilian winger putting pen to paper on a five-year contract that ties him to the club until 2031. The deal is reported at an initial £32m, rising to around £34m with add-ons, and was announced by both clubs on 31 August.

City's director of football Hugo Viana said the club had tracked Allan's progress in Brazil, describing him as "really exciting" and adding: "We watched his progress in Brazil and saw a player who thrives in the big moments and works hard for the team with a superb attitude." That combination of end product and defensive graft is a specific fit for Enzo Maresca, who wants wingers capable of winning the ball back high up the pitch as well as threatening in one-on-ones.

For Palmeiras, it means losing a player who very nearly didn't make it at the club. Allan joined the Palmeiras academy in 2019 and only broke into the first team last year, having at one stage feared his time there was over before manager Abel Ferreira urged him to keep going. He repaid that faith by becoming a regular in a Palmeiras side that competes at the top of Brazilian football and in the Copa Libertadores, and his departure leaves a gap on the right of their attack that the club will need to fill from within the squad or the market.

His recent form backs up the fee. In the 2025/26 season Allan made 42 appearances for Palmeiras, scoring six goals and setting up six more, with a further goal and two assists in the Libertadores. Across his full career at the club he totalled 96 appearances, nine goals and 12 assists, numbers built as much on work rate and pressing as on end product.

At City, he arrives as the replacement for Savio, who left for Tottenham in a £75m deal the previous week. Allan is expected to operate on the right of Maresca's attack, offering directness and defensive intensity in a City side that has been rebuilt heavily this summer. Whether he starts immediately or is eased in will depend on pre-season form and how quickly he adapts to the pace of the Premier League, but the profile — a hard-running, high-pressing wide forward rather than a pure creator — suggests City see him as a long-term fit for Maresca's system rather than a short-term fix.

Speaking after signing, Allan called the move "the proudest moment of my life" and said: "I want to promise the Manchester City fans I will give absolutely everything to make the most of this opportunity."
