Napoli have signed Brazilian forward Giovane from Hellas Verona in a deal worth up to €20 million, with add-ons making up a large part of the package. The move was confirmed on 24 January 2026, with the 22-year-old completing his medical in Milan before putting pen to paper on a long-term contract running through to 2030. It is a permanent transfer, not a loan.
The fee is a striking figure given Giovane only joined Verona for free from Brazilian side Corinthians in the summer of 2025. Six months on, Verona have turned that free signing into a €20 million sale, one of the most profitable pieces of transfer business in Serie A this season.
For Napoli, the deal is about restocking Antonio Conte's forward line after a busy window in the other direction. The club sold Lorenzo Lucca to Nottingham Forest and Noa Lang to Galatasaray in the same window, leaving Conte short of attacking options. Giovane's versatility was a key factor: he can play as a central striker, in support of a main forward, or out on the right, giving Conte a flexible body to plug into his front line at short notice.
Hellas Verona lose a player who had quickly become one of the most eye-catching parts of their squad. Under head coach Paolo Zanetti, Giovane contributed 3 goals and 4 assists in 21 Serie A appearances before his exit, direct output that helped make him one of the division's most-watched emerging talents. Verona's business model under sporting director Sean Sogliano has long been to unearth cheap or free talent and sell it on quickly at a big profit, and this deal is the clearest example yet of that approach paying off, even if it leaves Zanetti's squad weaker in the short term.
Giovane made his Napoli debut almost immediately, coming off the bench against Juventus just two days after the deal was struck. He then went on to become a regular fixture under Conte, at times deployed as an unconventional central striker despite having played there only sparingly before turning professional in Brazil. Conte reportedly told him simply to relax and play his natural game once asked to lead the line, and Giovane later credited that conversation for helping him settle into the role.
At Napoli, expect Giovane to be used as a rotation option and impact substitute in the short term, with the licence to start centrally or from the right depending on the opponent and who else is available. His pace, directness and eye for a chance were the qualities that persuaded Napoli to move for him so quickly, and Conte's willingness to hand him minutes in a variety of positions suggests he sees Giovane as a genuine squad asset rather than a peripheral figure.
