Hull City have signed Olympiacos midfielder Christos Mouzakitis in a deal worth an initial £13m, the promoted club's 18th and final signing of a busy summer window.

Hull City have completed the signing of Christos Mouzakitis from Olympiacos, with the Greek club receiving a fee reported at €15m (around £13m), which can rise by a further €5m in add-ons. The 19-year-old defensive midfielder underwent a medical in Athens on transfer deadline day, 1 September, before signing a five-year contract running until 2031. He becomes Hull's 18th and final signing of a summer spent rebuilding the squad for their return to the Premier League.

Manager Sergej Jakirovic had made a defensive midfielder one of his priorities for the window, wanting a young, technically secure player to sit in front of the back four as Hull adjust to the step up from the Championship. Mouzakitis fits that profile: a Greece international with 11 caps already at 19, and winner of the 2025 Golden Boy Web award for Europe's best young talent. Hull moved decisively to beat reported interest from Manchester United and Real Madrid, both credited with tracking the midfielder after his performances in the Champions League last season.

For Olympiacos, it means losing one of their most closely watched academy graduates. He is built to shield the defence, win the ball back and move it forward quickly, rather than get into the opposition box. It was that combination of composure and defensive discipline, allied to his age, that persuaded Hull to commit one of the biggest fees of their summer to a teenager rather than a ready-made Premier League operator.

At Hull, he is expected to play as the holding midfielder in Jakirovic's system, screening the back four and helping the team keep the ball higher up the pitch — something the head coach has flagged as important to establishing the club in the top flight. With six central midfielders added during the window, competition for that specific role will be strong, but Mouzakitis arrives as one of the most talked-about young midfielders in Europe and with the profile of a long-term starter rather than a squad player.

The signing is part of an aggressive summer under owner Acun Ilicali, with deadline-day business alone — including a loan move for Roma striker Robinio Vaz — taking Hull's total outlay for the window to around £40m. Jakirovic, who led Hull to promotion through the play-offs last season, played down talk of a lavish rebuild as the window closed: "We have a lot of work to do. We need to stay humble and work hard like always," he said.
