KRC Genk have completed a club-record signing of Nigeria striker Rafiu Durosinmi from Pisa, paying a reported €10.5m for the 23-year-old. The deal, confirmed on 23 July 2026, includes performance-related bonuses, with Pisa retaining a 10 per cent sell-on clause. Durosinmi has signed a four-year contract at the Cegeka Arena, keeping him at Genk until June 2030.
The move comes just six months after Durosinmi joined Pisa in the first place. The Italian club paid Viktoria Plzen around €11m for him in January 2026, making him their record signing at the time. Pisa's stay in Serie A did not last, though — they finished bottom of the table, scoring only 25 goals and conceding 63 in 35 matches, and were relegated to Serie B. That relegation left the club needing to sell, and Durosinmi's exit for close to what they paid for him represents the biggest sale in Pisa's history.
For Genk, the fee eclipses their previous record of €7m, paid to Celta Vigo for Theo Bongonda in 2019. Head of football Dimitri de Conde explained the thinking behind the move: "Rafiu is a striker with qualities that align well with the way KRC Genk wants to play. He is good in the box and also strong on the ball in combination play." De Conde said he had been looking for "a typical number nine to whom you can pass the ball" who could make an immediate impact, adding that Durosinmi "meets those requirements." The signing also gives Genk a long-term successor to Tolu Arokodare, the Nigerian forward who left the club last summer.
Pisa lose a player they had backed heavily just months earlier, brought in specifically to help fire them clear of relegation trouble. That job never got done — Pisa's problems ran through the whole team, with a leaky defence undermining any goals Durosinmi did produce — and his return in Serie A was modest by his own recent standards. He did score important goals along the way, including an equaliser against Atalanta, but could not prevent the drop.
It's Durosinmi's earlier form that persuaded Genk to break their transfer record. At Viktoria Plzen, he was one of the most reliable scorers in Czech football, finishing with 35 goals and 10 assists in 86 appearances across two seasons, and he was joint top scorer in the Czech league when Pisa came calling in January. That kind of output, plus his physical profile and ability to link play, is what convinced Genk he can be their long-term focal point up front.
At Genk, Durosinmi becomes the 14th Nigerian to play for the club, following a lineage that includes Paul Onuachu, Cyriel Dessers, Wilfred Ndidi and Sunday Oliseh. He arrives as a powerful, mobile number nine capable of playing off both shoulders and combining with midfield runners — exactly the profile Genk have built their attack around in recent years. With a full pre-season to work with new teammates, he should be in contention to lead the line from the start of the Belgian Pro League campaign.
